Vidović’s drawings
For a very long time Emanuel Vidović endured the unjust accusations that he did not know how to draw. In 1934, his contemporary, the influential arts critic Ljubo Babić, concluded that Vidović ‘’dreaded the line’’ and managed to convince the public, Vidović’s paintings had no graphic quality. What was neglected was the fact that Vidović’s drawing, although hidden under the layers of colour and blurred my sfumatos, just like the one that gives the composition strength – was the basis of each of his good paintings.
