The interiors of the atelier and his flat from 1938 to 1942
Later in life, the painter found peace and contentment in the intimacy of his home, in the well protected space of his own micro-cosmos. The impressions are ripe and the hand is ready for new endeavours being more capable than ever to guide lines, shapes and colours and to join them into the perfect unity of his Work.
The preparations for tackling the new motifs were long. As early as 1926, prompted by his son’s recommendations – Slavan – to stop painting just landscapes and to try his hand in still life, he painted several works depicting the interior of his previous atelier.
