Vidović’s works in pastel
In the 1920s and 1930s, Vidović often used the pastel technique. It is enough to take a look at the paintings A Motif from the Split Port and Fishermen in the Port to notice that pastels were the perfect media for a painter who does not describe, but suggests. The pastel, guided by Vidović’s hand, erases the sharp borders between the objects and with a subtle gradation of tone merges the parts of the painting into a harmonious unity of a wistfully tuned poetic atmosphere.
