Early romantic-symbolist paintings
In parallel with the realist-impressionist oil paintings, Vidović also painted atelier paintings of mid- or large size, the stylized landscapes of Suton with their solitary human figures , immersed into the atmosphere of romantic symbolism. From 1896 to 1906 he worked on the L'ora che volge il desio, and at his exhibition in 1901 and 1903 he presented a series of paintings called Pax, Tristitia or Ave Maria, thus emphasizing their symbolical meaning.
