The First Realist-Impressionist Paintings
From the very beginning we notice in Vidović’s works the strife between the realistic/representational and the symbolical/visionary way of depicting reality.
Vidović’s first paintings are studies on wood or card-board painted en plain air using colour patches rendered clean and bright or subdued with grey dark colours; they resemble the paintings of the Italian Macchiaioli who used this technique rendered by rich patches of colour to solve the issue of light (and achieve maximum luminosity).
