The antique wall niche between the first and second floor – Vidović’s Caricatures

The caricatures remind us of Vidović’s role as a pioneer in the promotion of caricatures as an independent discipline of the visual arts and of his engagement in Split’s humour-and-satire newspaper Duje Balavac in which he published 48 well drawn caricatures between 1908 – 1912. Even in these few examples of his caricatures one can notice that drawing his friends and fellow citizens, the artist managed to convey successfully the characteristic features of their physiognomy and posture.

Moreover, he was very careful to depict his ‘’victims’’ retaining a measure of composed expression so that they evoke not just laughter but also sympathy among the viewers.
